Silver Dress

2023

Along the coastline of Texel lie dozens of centuries-old shipwrecks. In 2010 a wreck was exposed that had sank in 1660. A couple of years later the wreck was exposed enough for sportsdivers to retrieve objects from it. Among them were unique dresses, 17th century textiles still preserved.

One of these dresses was a weddingdress, adorned with silver elements. Many questions surround the dress. Whose was it? Was it ever worn? Mystery surrounds the dress.

Kaap Skil, the Texel museum on  its maritime past, has a special collection on the objects found in the The Palmwood wreck. The mystery surrounding the silver wedding dress has been captured in an animation projected around it.

From the bottom of the Wadden Sea, silver sediment rises up from the bottom and magically converges to breathe life into the dress for a brief moment.
