The Battle of Quatre Bras
In 'Battle of Quatre Bras', made by Jan Willem Pieneman in 1818. In the painting, the young Prince of Orange is leading Dutch troops in the battle with Napoleon’s army at Quatre Bras in 1815. This big painting has been restored and placed in a prominent place in the National Military Museum.
The battle despicted in the painting is fairly unknown, but very important to the following, better known battle in Napoleon's campaign: Waterloo.
The animation clarifies a lot around the story of the battle, what happened and when. The startingpoint for all this was a strategical battlefield with miniatures. We used static elements placed in a scene where it was the camera that tells the story and brings the battle to life.
This animation was made while I worked at Shosho.

There is a tangible contrast between the large, strategic scale of the battlemap
and the close up shots of the soldiers in battle.
